Like some of you, I have so many ideas in my head! I've never been afraid to try them out and never afraid to "fail". I don't believe in failure so I would replace fail with let go and move on. I'm a multi-entrepreneur and I've started several businesses including a cupcake business, a clothing brand, a photography business, and a marketing business that included website development, business cards, and promotional items. None of these interests are random. Cupcakes came from my love of cooking and baking with my mother growing up. Clothing came from me always altering my clothes with puffy paint, buttons, or glitter as a kid. My mother taught me how to sew and also made a lot of my clothes growing up so it was easy for me to want to create my own. Photography takes me back to being fascinated by the images in my favorite magazines growing up (ESSENCE, EBONY). I took a photography class in middle school and the rest is history. I've always taken photos before there was ever a thing called social media and people cared so much about likes and acceptance. Marketing and websites came about from what I learned as a Graphic Communications major in college. I want you to see that every path you've taken in life is valuable and feeds into your overall purpose in some way. It's up to you to connect the dots.
This is not a case of 'a jack of all trades and a master of none". All of these things were/are passions and things I did well. The question I had to ask myself was, which of these bring me joy and help fulfill my known purpose? Once I could answer that it was easy to decide what I wanted to invest my time in. Please understand that TIME is the real value in life. It is more valuable than money. You can not get a refund on time, get more time, or exchange time. All we have is right now. This is why starting is so important.. start. is a complete sentence. If you want to create a business, pursue a degree, change your life, reconnect with a friend, become a better version of yourself, etc, the time is now. start. Don't overthink it, don't wait to map out the whole story, and don't wait for money, or wait for people.
Everybody's start is going to be different because it depends on where you are in the process. For example, Person A and Person B want to get fit. Person A does not wait until they can afford a gym membership. They decide to start with what they have. That doesn't mean Person A has equipment at home. It could mean Person A sees the possibility with the floor in their home and they choose to start their journey by doing push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, and jumping jacks. Once Person A made that decision they are now on their fitness journey. Person B is waiting until they can afford a gym membership, convince a friend to be a gym buddy, a time that both can go to the gym, the least busy hours at the gym, classes that fit their schedule, and the list goes on. Person B is delayed in their fitness journey. start. is all about committing to be Person A, finding a way, and establishing their starting point. All of the possibilities are on the other side of that period. start.
